Short and Sweet (with a little complaining about my cold)

Hello friends, I'm still not feeling good I called in sick today because I was coughing up a lung this morning. Hubby got me some cough syrup before school, I googled it to make sure my other prescriptions didn't interfere and holy crap it had a ton of sugar, 13g :( wow I never knew. At least I have been able to exercise the past couple of days so hopefully that helps with the sugar in my cold/cough meds.

The past several days I have been making pumpkin oatmeal my adding some pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, two packets stevia and walnuts to my oatmeal delish. I have done this for the past several years except pre-bfc I used brown sugar.

I don't have much else to say my head is foggy from the cold meds, I mostly wanted to check in and complain a bit about sugar in cold meds. Have a wonderful day friends I hope everything you have to do pre-Thanksgiving is going smoothly.

  1. Gosh I hope you feel better soon! I am glad that you and Rosalie's bug hasn't gotten to me!
I have a lot of Stevia recipes on my pinterest. Look there and you will even see one for making your own Maple syrup! I love that site.
I am thrilled that the snow is gone, especially since my husband is gone. I can definitely wait until Christmas for more snow!
I wish I ate oatmeal too. I think my mom OD'd us on it when I was little! My kids used to love going to Rosauers Family Restaurant and getting their oatmeal because it came with a little pitcher of cream and a little dish of brown sugar. It just tickled them! I wonder if they remember?
Have a great Thanksgiving and I hope you feel better soon. I fell off the exercise bandwagon in a BAD way. I have only gone to Zumba 3x in the last month. BAD:( I hope I go tomorrow!

  3. I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. It sounds like you and Rosalie have the same thing. Have you ever tried peanut butter in your oatmeal? I like it that way as well.

  5. I have been coughing my head off also and am in the middle of the second week now. I refused to take any liquid medicine. I am only taking the jelcaps of alkaseltzer cold medicine. I do feel a bit better today - but still coughing.
I hope you feel better tomorrow and have a great thanksgiving :-)

  6. I think you'd be better off taking a spoonful of honey, if you're going to be eating sugar in the cough syrup anyway. Just something to think about! Hope you feel better soon!

  7. OH Katie, I hope you feel better soon! There is some nasty bugs going around. Alot of the girls I work with arent feeling well and I am trying not to get it. I hope your cold gets better & my thoughts are to take the cold meds & not worry about the sugar in the cough syrup right now. Your main concern should just be to get better. ((Hugs)) to you & hope that you have a wonderful thanksgiving!!!

  8. So sorry to hear you are sick. It is amazing how much sugar that they put in cough syrup. I love my oatmeal made that way too, and it gives a little break from eating eggs everyday. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  9. So sorry you are coughing a lung up. I say that all of the time :) We are big coughers in my family. Over the counter cough meds don't really do much, unfortunately (and I've sold a lot of them for work). They say honey works, but it didn't work for my family. Sometimes prescription cough meds (codeine)work for us, but they probably have a lot of sugar in them, too. I found that with my kids and me, the postnasal drip from the cold makes us react in an asthmatic kind of way (even though they aren't asthmatics)so we use a fast acting inhaler (proventil) like an asthmatic would use. Last year on a plane ride to Hawaii, my daughter coughed long and hard the whole entire way (even though I gave her more codeine than a grown man should have.......don't worry, my dad is a clinical pharmacologist and would never let me harm his favorite grandchild :). We got a lot of glares from the coughing and finally figured out that she needed the inhaler (after the 6 hr plane ride :/).....and yes, I am the rep for proventil so it's a shamelss plug,LOL, but I would've have used anything to get her to stop coughing. None of us were getting sleep and the cough was straining muscles in a bad way. Sorry for that long biography, but I thought I would share what FINALLY worked for us because coughing sucks. HOpe you feel better.
