Honesty

Hello my friends, I'm embarrassed to say that I have gained weight :( It's crazy that I didn't notice I feel good, but Saturday I went to put on my jeans and it was not good, then to see what the real damage was I got on the scale...yikes 145. I realized that I must have been living in the famous state of Denial. Denial because I really thought I was doing good except for little cheats here and there because I just plain wanted them and I thought I deserved them. Since I haven't been fully plugged into the bfc community lately I was a little out of touch with what I was really up to. Well, I had the "come to Jesus" talk with myself over the weekend and I decided that I need to get back to purposeful, mindful eating. I've also started food journaling again, if it goes in my mouth I have to write it down, doing that really makes me aware of what I am really up to.

I am glad to be out of denial, I plan to be more plugged in by blogging and commenting on others blogs. I am journaling my food and I am taking advantage of our new gym membership. I feel actually kinda refreshed to have had this epiphany about myself and my plan to lose the extra lbs and get back on track.

I am not discouraged or depressed about the extra weight, I am committed to getting back on track and figuring out better ways of making this work long term. I turn 30 in January and I've been doing a lot of thinking about where I want to be then and how to get there.

If you have been living in a state of denial like I have, it's ok...just pick yourself up and start again. Start being mindful and intentional about what you put into your mouth. I will be more faithful in posting about my journey to getting back on track, together we can do this.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments on my last post, Kim I would love to know how you make greek yogurt :)

  3. You will get back to where you want to be. It is so easy to go over the slippery slope. I weigh every day because it keeps me honest with myself. Of course it doesn't tell me when my muscle leaves:( I know better!
The good news is that you are doing this when you are young, and hopefully won't have to struggle when you are older.
Just follow through with your goals and you will do great!

  6. Katie, I have visited the state of denial many times over the years. The good thing is you caught yourself before it got top far. I was also gliding along enjoying the BFC too much and just maintaining when I finally woke up and realized I wasn't finished losing yet and had to get more strict with myself to do so.

  7. Hi Katie.... I totally agree - I do soooo much better when I track everything that I eat. Whenever I do not, the weight starts coming back on. You know what else?? We ALL get off track but the BFC is always right there ready for us to start back up at our next meal :)

So here is the link to yogurt recipe that we have been using for years:

    http://www.thefrugalgirl.com/2009/10/how-to-make-homemade-yogurt-2/

    Here are a few notes:
**With this recipe you can make up to 4 quarts. If you only want to make 2 quarts, just cut the recipe down to a half-gallon.

**When picking out my yogurt starter, I start with a plain (no flavors or added sugars) yogurt. Pick one that has atleast 5 live cultures (the more cultures the better - some even have 7 cultures- we use Horizon's plain, full-fat, yogurt).

**I personally never sterilize my jars or lids - I just run them through the dishwasher.

**We always strain our yogurt as we are putting it into the glass jars because it removes any milk pieces that may have burnt when cooking it - but this is totally up to you.

**We actually let our yogurt sit for atleast 8 hours in the cooler. Then we put it in the fridge to cool over-night. If you try to use it straight from the cooler, it will be runny.

Now to turn your yogurt into Greek yogurt, you will just strain the whey out. Take your yogurt that you have just cooled down in the fridge (or you can even take a store-bought containter of yogurt) and place it in a strainer set over a bowl. I cover the top of the yogurt with a napkin and leave it in the fridge to strain over night. In the morning, what is left in the strainer is your thick, creamy, Greek yogurt (and the whey will be in the bowl). Scoop the yogurt it into a jar and that's all there is to it! I will do an actual post about this in the next month and take pictures as I go along. Send me a note if you have any other questions. :)
